As today is all about celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women, Keith has been telling us about the potter Lucie Rie, a huge influence to his career:
“Lucie Rie, who set up her first studio in Vienna in 1925 and emigrated to England to escape the Nazi regime, has been a huge, if not the biggest, influence on my career. Her work is not only interesting in its form and overall look but also the forms and shape she created were ahead of their time. To this day I still get quite emotional when I see her work. In fact, I would go as far as to say I think of her every time I am at the wheel. I had the good fortune to meet her at her studio in London before she died.”
Happy International Woman’s Day, everyone.
